The City of South Bend launched the Energy Assistance and Solar Savings Initiative for the fifth year this month.
“The impact of EASSI has led to significant energy savings, deep investments into buildings and infrastructure, and a highly connected nonprofit and business community motivated to make South Bend sustainable and resilient,” said Alex Bazán, director of sustainability, in a press release.
The program provides technical and financial help so nonprofits and businesses can complete energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
“Since its launch, EASSI has supported more than 40 organizations, resulting in 15 solar installations and more than 30 energy efficiency projects,” according to a LinkedIn post. “Together, these efforts have generated over $3.6 million in combined public and private investment.”
Organizations can submit project ideas for consideration in the program, which is a partnership between the city, IFF, and CDFI Friendly South Bend Region.
Projects are expected to reduce energy consumption by at least 30% and must be in located in the city.
Applications for EASSI are accepted on a rolling basis, subject to available funding. Organizations that participated in the past can apply again.
