A 30-year veteran of Microsoft will become his alma mater's first chief innovation officer. Raj Biyani graduated from Goshen College in 1992.
Biyani will lead the college's artificial intelligence efforts.
“Raj brings strategic clarity, entrepreneurial energy and humility in a rare combination,” said Rebecca Stoltzfus, president of Goshen College, in a press release. “He listens first, generates trust and brings out the best in others. We are fortunate to have him not only as an accomplished alumnus, but now as a colleague who will help shape our institutional strategy and advance innovation for Goshen College and our students.”
Biyani returned to the college for homecoming in 2025 to receive the Culture for Service Award and then started helping the college prepare for AI in higher education.
That led to guest lectures in 25 classes, engagement with 100 business leaders, and a 12-part AI seminar for faculty and staff. He also helped start the college's AI Innovators Program, which has led to 45 projects from 14 academic departments and 10 administrative offices.
“At Goshen College, we are not limiting ourselves by just asking what AI can do, but rather what we should do with it and why. I am excited to contribute to this mission because those are questions worth dedicating the next chapter of my life to,” Biyani said.
Goshen College enrolls about 800 students, two-thirds of which are from Indiana. It is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution on a 135-acre campus. It was founded in 1894 as the Elkhart Institute of Science, Industry and the Arts.
