Community leaders, health care partners, donors and neighbors gathered Oct. 7, for a ribbon cutting for the new Women’s Care Center in Mishawaka.
The event celebrated an expanded space designed to provide care and support to women and families—at no cost.
“This is about access, dignity and hope,” Mayor Dave Wood said in a press release. “The Women’s Care Center meets people where they are and walks with them—without barriers or judgment.”
Leaders at the Center emphasized that services are free, confidential and delivered by trained staff and volunteers committed to long-term support. The new space features a family-friendly design with private consultation rooms, ultrasound services and flexible education areas for parenting and life-skills classes.
“We often meet clients in one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives,” a Center spokesperson said. “Our goal is to surround them with care today and walk beside them for as long as they need.”
The project was made possible through a coalition of local donors, faith and civic partners, and health care collaborators. Several speakers highlighted the importance of cross-sector partnerships—from hospitals and clinics to schools, churches and neighborhood groups—to ensure women receive timely referrals and wraparound resources.
“This is what Mishawaka does best,” Wood said. “We identify a need, bring the right people to the table and build something that lasts.”
