First Farmers announces next bank leader

First Farmers Bank & Trust will have a new president come Jan. 1 when Matthew Maher will succeed Mark Holt as president.

The appointment is part of a long-term succession plan, according to a press release.

Maher currently is Hamilton County regional president and a bank executive vice president. Holt will continue as CEO of the bank, and as a director at the bank and of First Farmers Financial Corp.

First Farmers Financial Corp. President and CEO Keith Hill will continue in those roles.

Holt joined the bank's board of directors in 1997, and became an executive officer in 2015. He was named president of the bank in 2019, and also CEO in 2020, according to the Indiana Bankers Association. He first was a veterinarian in Marion for 30 years.

Maher also was a senior commercial loan office at Horizon Bank from 2016 to 2019, and before that, worked for Salin Bank & Trust Co. and BMO Harris Bank in the Indianapolis area. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting.

The publicly traded First Farmers Financial Corp., based in Converse, is a $3.5 billion financial holding company. First Farmers Bank & Trust has offices throughout Indiana, including Marshall and Starke counties, and Illinois.
