U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan recently presented United Way of La Porte County with funding for new mental health initiatives.
The Michigan City-based organization will use the funding to better understand and address youth mental health and substance concerns in La Porte County.
The project will include a youth mental health and substance abuse needs assessment for the county. It will provide community education and outreach to youth and their families.
United Way hopes to promote related career pathways and create a local advocacy plan for systems improvements.
Mrvan secured the funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. He announced the funding on Dec. 15.
United Way has served communities across the country for more than 100 years. United Way of La Porte County works to achieve equity, financial stability, educational advancement and personal well-being for youth and families. United Way is the largest privately supported nonprofit in the world.
