Author and food writer Carrie Steinweg recently visited Elkhart to sign copies of her new book.
Steinweg’s book, Unique Eats and Eateries of Indiana, was published in fall 2024. It highlights 83 restaurants and food businesses throughout Indiana. The book features five Elkhart County area restaurants: Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana, Das Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury, Goshen Brewing Company in Goshen, Iechyd Da Brewing Company in Elkhart and South Side Soda Shop in Goshen. Steinweg shares her observations as well as the backstory of each business.
Steinweg signed copies of her book at Fables Bookstore and Iechyd Da Brewing Company. The book signing occurred in conjunction with Sip and Savor Elkhart County and Taste of Goshen, events featuring food specials from a variety of restaurants and businesses.
Michelle Gladieux, author of Communicate with Courage, joined Steinweg for the signing.
Steinweg said Indiana is underrated as a food destination.
“The food landscape of the Hoosier state is an immense melting pot of ethnic cuisines, farm-to-table, innovative menus, Indiana-born concoctions, craft beers, comfort food, hand-dipped candy shops, nostalgic diners and much more,” Steinweg said in a press release. “This book celebrates that culinary diversity while sharing stories of what makes each place unique.”
Steinweg founded the Chicago Foodie Sisters blog with her sister in 2011. Since 2000, she has written about food for a variety of outlets. Steinweg is the author of eight books.
