Dunes Arts Foundation to host discussion

The Michigan City-based Dunes Arts Foundation is hosting a discussion about August Wilson’s work Feb. 8 at the Michigan City Public Library.

Actor Cedric Young will take part in the discussion. Young’s screen credits include “Law and Order,” “Chicago Fire,” “Backdraft,” “Ma Rainy’s Black Bottom” and “Young the Chi.”

Steve Scott, Dunes Arts Foundation artistic director, will also participate in the discussion. Scott has also served as director and producer at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

August Wilson was an American playwright. He is known for his cycle of 10 plays chronicling the African American experience in the 1900s. Most of Wilson’s plays are set in the Hill District, a working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wilson was born in the Hill District in 1945. Each play is set in a different decade. “Put them all together,” Wilson once said, “and you have a history.”

The discussion is free and open to the public. The event will take place 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Michigan City Public Library. The event is the second in the Dunes Arts Foundation's Writer's Room series.
