Comcast awarded La Casa de Amistad, a South Bend-based community organization, a $15,000 grant.
La Casa de Amistad provides educational, cultural and advocacy services to the Latino community within Michiana. The grant will support its bilingual digital assistance program. The program provides adults with computer assistance ranging from online job applications to resume building.
Comcast also donated 25 laptops to recent graduates of La Casa de Amistad’s digital education program.
“Bridging the digital divide includes equipping community members with the digital skills they need to navigate and thrive in our ever-connected world,” said Grace Hong Duffin, Comcast regional vice president of external and government affairs, in a press release. “Digital literacy is no longer an advantage in our society, but a prerequisite to participating in everyday life.”
Comcast contributed to La Casa de Amistad’s digital assistance program in 2023, awarding the organization a $10,000 grant and donating 25 laptops.
Juan Constantino, La Casa de Amistad CEO, said Comcast’s support would help the organization expand the digital training program to reach more adults across Michiana.
“Graduates of our digital assistance program leave with a skillset that allows them to enter our digital world, such as being able to access their child’s school portal and communicate with their teachers,” Constantino said.
The grant and laptop donations are part of Project UP, Comcast’s commitment to advance digital equity.
