City of Elkhart passes 2025 budget

The 2025 budget for the City of Elkhart was set at a special call meeting for the Elkhart Common Council.

ASPIRE Elkhart will remain the focus of the City of Elkhart in 2025 for a total of nearly $126 million. The city will also invest in infrastructure, public safety, quality of place and neighborhoods.

The budget reflects the personnel, equipment and projects necessary to carry out ASPIRE in the coming year. Plans include paving roads, updating parks, renovating a downtown landmark and removing invasive plant species.

Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson expressed his gratitude to the city controller’s office, staff and department heads for the time they invested preparing and presenting the budget.

“We are in our ASPIRE era, and this budget is the first one reflective of our ASPIRE goals,” Roberson said in a press release. “We all see this process through different lenses, but because we share the vison for ASPIRE, we were able to smoothly and responsibly fine-tune this budget to realize that vision.”

The ordinances passed included the 2025 operating budget and the 2025 salary ordinances for every entity with the exception of the fire department. The 2025 fire salary ordinance will be up for consideration at the next regular meeting of the Elkhart Common Council in late October.
