The National Catholic Education Association has named Diane Gasaway a recipient of their 2025 Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award.
Gasaway is a teacher at Queen of All Saints Catholic School in Michigan City. She is one of nine honorees to receive this year’s award.
“The LLP awardees embody the mission of Catholic education through their faithful dedication to shaping hearts and minds in Christ’s image,” said Dr. Steven Cheeseman, association president and CEO, in a press release. “Their work is a testament to the transformative power of Catholic education.”
Gasaway has served in Catholic education for 37 years. She is currently a 6th and 7th grade math teacher. Gasaway also provides resource support and after-school assistance to students who face challenges inside and outside of the classroom.
Kim Gondeck, Queen of All Saints principal, nominated Gasaway for the award.
“Diane’s proactive approach to addressing the needs of students from poverty and trauma-filled homes is commendable,” Gondeck said. “She has spearheaded efforts to educate faculty on effective teaching methods and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by these students.”
Gasaway also serves as a Eucharistic minister, lector, greeter and small group leader in Queen of All Saints parish. She assists with numerous church programs.
“The best time to have gotten that call was with a group of students in front of me,” Gasaway said about receiving the news of the award. “I wanted to start crying at the time. It was very impactful. That’s why I teach, for those kids right in front of me.”
The nine recipients will be honored April 21 on the eve of the NCEA's 2025 convention in Orlando.
