IU South Bend chancellor joins Campus Compact

Indiana University South Bend chancellor Susan Elrod was recently named to the Campus Compact board of directors.

Campus Compact is a national nonprofit organization. It supports, engages and challenges higher education. Member campuses make up a coalition of presidents, faculty, researchers, students, and community engagement leaders.

“I am excited to offer my experience and insight as we work together across our nation to serve as responsive and transformative agents of change,” Elrod said in a press release.

Elrod said that regional public universities like IU South Bend are anchor institutions in their communities.

“Imagine what our community would be like without IU South Bend,” Elrod said. “Regional public universities are engines of economic and community development, providing opportunities for social mobility and much needed talent for industry, community organizations and government.”

As a member of Campus Contact’s board of directors, Elrod will offer leadership and expertise.

“We are so grateful for the stewardship of our board of directors at a time when the role of higher education in furthering community wellbeing has never been more critical,” Bobbie Laur, Campus Compact president, said.

Elrod began as the sixth chancellor of Indiana University in 2019. She previously served as a provost, dean and academic leader universities in the California State University system and the University of Wisconsin system. Elrod earned a doctorate in genetics.
