Air Force fighter pilot to speak at Lake Michigan College

The Lake Michigan College Mendel Center will host U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Dan Rooney on Nov. 7 as part of its speaker series.

Rooney is a decorated F-16 fighter pilot. He is also the founder of Folds of Honor, a PGA professional and the author of two books.

Rooney’s speech is titled CAVU: Live Unlimited. CAVU is an aviation acronym for “ceiling and visibility unlimited.” It describes the perfect conditions to be a pilot. Rooney will speak about leadership, fighter pilot lessons, unlocking talents through faith and embracing resistance.

Rooney’s nonprofit organization, Folds of Honor, provides scholarships for children and spouses of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. Since 2007, the foundation has provided nearly 52,000 scholarships.

Rooney is a USA Today bestselling author. As a motivational speaker, he has addressed over 1,000 corporations and groups across America. He founded two nationally ranked golf clubs.

Rooney has continued his military service after three combat tours in Iraq. He currently is stationed in Texas. Rooney is a two-time recipient of the Top Gun award and has received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Anti-terrorism Medal, Combat Readiness Medal and Air Expeditionary Medal. President George W. Bush presented him with the White House’s Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

The Lake Michigan College Mendel Center is in its 33rd season of performing arts and speaker events. This year’s speaker series kicked off in August with Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
