The Downtown Dining Association of South Bend presented a donation of $38,000 to Beacon Children’s Hospital Jan. 19.
The funds were raised during last year’s Winter and Summer Restaurant Weeks which ran Jan. 22 to Feb. 4 and Aug. 2-18. The Downtown Dining Association hosted a check presentation ceremony and kick-off event for the 2025 Winter Restaurant Weeks.
The donation is the largest contribution the Dining Association has made to Beacon Children’s Hospital to date. Since the partnership started ten years ago, the Dining Association has raised $274,944.93 through restaurant week promotions to support the hospital.
“It is truly wonderful to be part of a community that uplifts and cares for one another,” Beacon Health System representatives said in a press release. “We could not be more grateful for the generosity shown through both the Winter and Summer Restaurant Weeks.”
Mark McDonnell, Peg Dalton and Matt Soutra of the Downtown Dining Assocation, Jen Tonkovich and Susan King of Beacon Health System and Willow Wetherall of Downtown South Bend attended the check presentation ceremony.
The Downtown Dining Association of South Bend is a consortium of restaurant owners created to promote locally-owned dining options in the downtown area. Through marketing and special events, the association hopes to increase awareness of the dining options and create a vibrant downtown atmosphere.
