Mno-Bmadsen buys OJS Building Services Inc.

Mno-Bmadsen of Dowagiac, Michigan, acquired OJS Building Services Inc. of Mishawaka.

Owner Steve Meyer was ready to retire, so he engaged Calder Capital to help him find a buyer for the 40-year-old company.

Meyer had purchased OJS in 2007, working to expand its services and locations. The company offers mechanical and building systems automation, and HVAC equipment replacement and maintenance. It also has a location in Indianapolis.

Mno-Bmadsen is a “non-gaming investment arm of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.” Its goal is to build self-sufficiency for the band by buying companies that are profitable and sustainable.

“This acquisition offers a unique opportunity to grow our largest portfolio company, D.A. Dodd, by adding and expanding the services we provide and keeping and building on the excellent reputation OJS Building Services has built in the area,” said Julio Martinez, CEO of Mno-Bmadsen in a press release.

D.A. Dodd was founded in 1995 and offers mechanical contracting in Indiana and Michigan. It has offices in Rolling Prairie, Mishawaka and Lafayette.

The purchase also extends the reach of Mno-Bmadsen into Indiana.

“Investments in their ancestral lands provide an important reminder that the Pokagon people have lived in the area for generations and are proud to be part of the growth and success of Mishawaka,” Martinez said.

Calder Capital said 116 buyers were interested in OJS and garnered five offers.

“This deal continues the legacy of a family-founded business under the new stewardship of a respected tribal entity,” said Matt Uhl of Calder Capital. “It represents a perfect synergy between preserving a legacy and fostering growth.”

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Mno-Bmadsen was launched in 2012 to diversify the financial interests of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.

Calder Capital was founded in 2013 as a lower middle market investment bank that provides advisory services for mergers and acquisitions.
