50 new jobs will be created through Hearthside’s nearly $14 million investment in Michigan City

A nearly $14 million investment by Illinois-based Hearthside Food Solutions in its Michigan City facility is expected to create 50 new jobs.

According to the Economic Development Corp. Michigan City, Ind., Hearthside will invest $13.6 million in its plant at 502 U.S. 20 to expand its cracker production capacity with the installation of an oven and packaging line.

“Hearthside has continued to build on its base here in Michigan City as well as evolve to meet industry needs and flourish as a food contract manufacturer,” said Clarence Hulse, executive director of the Economic Development Corp. Michigan City, Ind. “It is always a special opportunity to work with existing businesses that are progressing to new levels in our region.”

Hearthside is among La Porte County’s largest employers with 450 workers, according to information on EDCMC’s website.

Bob Wojcik, plant manager of Hearthside’s Michigan City facility, said is positioned for growth.

“Our team is ready to build on and accelerate the momentum we have put into place over the years in Michigan City,” he said. “Our production line allows us to position our company in an even stronger spot within our industry while providing new jobs for Michigan City community members.”

Hearthside is a Downers Grove, Illinois-based contract food manufacturer, which operates 39 production facilities across North America and Europe. Its products include baked snacks, nutrition bars, snack bars, fresh foods, prepared meals, frozen foods, granola.
